The large amount of biomass in the rural areas that are wasted or underutilized can be reverted in fuel for the production of electric energy through renewable sources. The article presents a quantitative-qualitative research carried out in the rural settlement Estrela da Ilha, county of Ilha Solteira (SP), with the purpose of evaluating the capacity of electric energy generation from the existing biomass in the place. For the mapping of the biomass a socioeconomic diagnosis is made by a service provider of the settlement. The proposed technology to degrade biomass is the biodigester, resulting in the biogas process which, in turn, is considered as input variable in the calculations of electric energy production through a motor generator. The existing biomass is divided into two classes: animal waste and agricultural crops. The value of simulation of electric power production by animals is 359.73 kWh / day and by plants is 19.249,89 kWh / day, resulting in a total of 19,709.62 kWh / day of the entire settlement. This is an efficient alternative to complement the demand for electricity and make the environment more sustainable. Some scenarios and conditions for the implementation of biodigesters and public policies for the promotion of such conditions are discussed, in order to seek the beneficiation of the inhabitants of the settlement.
